You’re at a crossroads.

You’re facing a difficult decision.

You’re trying to overcome an obstacle at work.

Whatever the situation you’re facing, coaching can help.

I get it – You’re overworked, overtired, underpaid, under appreciated…the list goes on. You’d give anything to make progress on your goals, projects, relationships, etc.

Maybe you’re in a riff with your boss and not sure how to navigate it. Maybe you’re neck-deep in debt and can’t see the way out.

Or maybe you’re an entrepreneur with a million ideas and not sure which to pursue first. Or you’re a leader and are trying to motivate your people towards a goal and it feels like you’re herding cats.

No matter the obstacles in front of you, a coach can help clarify your objectives and chart a path towards realistic solutions.

I have been coaching individuals and entrepreneurs for the past several years, and the result is always the same: increased clarity, a solid action plan, and the confidence to achieve something that seemed impossible.

What is Coaching?

Think of coaching like having a “guide.” A guide is there to support you and bring out the best in you. That’s what a coach does. A coach helps you see that you’re the expert of your life, and the solution lies within you. All a coach does is help draw it out. Through probing questions and exploratory scenarios, a coach helps someone come up with solutions to all kinds of problems, and guides them in following through with those solutions.

Why should I have a coach?

You’ve heard the adage, “Can’t see the forest for the trees.” Well sometimes, we have a hard time working out our problems by ourselves because we’re so close to them. It can be difficult to step back and create space because we’re wandering “in the trees.” A coach helps you see the aerial view and craft an action plan to overcome the obstacles. From an outside perspective, a coach helps bring clarity to your situation by asking the right questions and guiding you to a custom-fit solution.

What can I be coached on?

Literally ANYTHING. Life? Check. Career? Check. Sex? Not my specialty, but yes…check! There is no situation or problem that can’t be helped by coaching.

My personal expertise is with leadership, relationships, and finances.

The difference between coaching, consulting, and counseling.

These roles can be blurred because they all share some similarities. However, they are quite different in the outcomes they pursue. Counseling is past-focused and pertains to putting together the pieces of your puzzled past to make you aware of why you do what you do. In consulting, the consultant is the “expert” and they are there to solve your problem for you. Coaching is future-focused and results-oriented. You are the “expert” and the solution lies within. A coach simply helps draw it out.

The reason this is important is because, when you come to your own conclusions about the best way to solve a problem, you are far more likely to own it and follow through on your commitments, because YOU came up with them!

How long is a coaching session?

Most sessions are 30 minutes and are done over the phone.

What do I get with Derek as my coach?

Besides solutions to problems, you’ll have confidential access via our scheduled coaching sessions, as well as email access. You’ll also experience a euphoric sensation because more is possible!

What about privacy?

I don’t share anything from our coaching conversations to anyone at anytime. I take notes that are encrypted and aren’t viewable by anyone except me.

What’s my next step?

If you’d like to explore the possibility of being coached, then email me to inquire about a consultation. I’ll ask some follow-up questions to make sure coaching would be a good fit. We’ll discuss what coaching is, define the coaching relationship, and explore topics you’d like solutions for.
